Gary West
made a triumphant return to the AMR SES and claimed outright honours but
it wasn’t without dramas for him with 2 spins that required official’s
and the team’s assistance to get the car going again.
Earlier in the day official’s got more than they bargained for when
they had to ‘move on’ two Dugite’s that had decided
to bask in the morning sun on the infamous “S” bend section
of the Jack’s Hill course.
There
were a high number of spins and excursions off the track that kept the
official’s busy constantly sweeping the track and removing all rocks
and debris off the track that had been brought onto the asphalt surface
and to their credit this was done with minimal delays to the action and
by mid afternoon the presentations were well under away.
The
crowd were treated to a spectacular day’s action with many cars
lifting both front and rear wheels across the different classes into the
Carousel section where spectators are permitted within a stone’s
throw of the track itself.

Ward
Back with a Vengeance
A late afternoon spin, modified circuit and a pair of ultra fast Subaru’s
couldn’t stop Dick Ward from taking out round three of the ever
popular Allied Metal Recyclers (AMR) 2006 CAMS WA Speed Event Series.
The usual suspects all returned to Jack’s Hill at Barbagallo Raceway
on Saturday 29 April for a quick blast up the modified 850 metre course
minus previous round winner Jamie Lister, leaving the Subaru’s of
Michael Lloyd and Tony Flood to try and run down Ward.
Adding extra spice to the event was the modified ‘carousel’
section at the top of the hill, where competitors were required to complete
an extra lap of the tight and technical section.
The format provided plenty of excitement for spectators with several cars,
including outright winner Ward putting their tyres off the circuit in
the search for speed.
Tony Flood adapted to the new layout early and held the top spot after
his first run with Michael Lloyd in hot pursuit.
For others the new course created many a debate over gear selection and
throttle application for the first two runs up the hill, but after the
lunch break times tumbled and the competition really started to heat up.
Ward emerged from a relatively sluggish start to set a blistering time
of 51.36 seconds, nearly a second clear of Tony Flood’s best of
a 52.18.
From there he was never pressed, taking class and outright honours for
the day, with Tony Flood collecting second and Michael Lloyd coming home
third.
The series now moves to the Boyd Road course on Sunday 21 May following
the postponement of round four in Collie this weekend.
